Debanhi Escobar is an 18-year-old law student, who wants to be a lawyer to help other people, according to her father.

She is one in a string of missing girls and women in northern Mexico, however, the world has been captured by her disappearance.

State governor Samuel García and his wife Mariana Rodríguez are being both praised and also ridiculed for helping personally with the search, with some saying he’s doing it for political gain.

Regardless, their Instagram posts and stories helped her case gain traction, and on April 21, 2022, the National Search Commission arrived to join the investigations.

Escobar went out to a party with two friends on April 8, and got into an argument with at least one of them.

One of the friends called a ride-hailing app to take her home.

The driver who picked her up was not on duty, and for reasons unknown, he let her off on the side of a remote road in Escobedo, the same city where the friends had been partying.

The driver took a photo of her on the side of the road which has now gone viral, and sent it to her friends around 5am on April 9.

Surveillance footage caught Escobar crossing the street and entering Alcosa Transportes Internacionales, a trucking company, before never being seen or heard from again.

Have any arrests been made in the Debanhi Escobar case?

The driver who left Escobar stranded on the side of the road was taken into custody on April 12.

He is a 47-year-old only known as Jesús, and according to the Daily Mail, knew and had driven Escobar and her friends before.

The outlet reports that Jesús has a past of being investigated for harassment and attempted kidnapping of women.

While in custody, he was questioned regarding the Escobar case but has not officially been charged with her disappearance.

Are there any new updates in the case?

An unidentified body was found on April 21, in the pool area of the Nueva Motel Castilla, not far from where Escobar went missing.

The coroner’s office has said it will take at least three days to return an autopsy report.
