‘Dreamliner’ problems tear Boeing surprisingly deep into the red – share stronger before the market
The corona crisis and problems with the long-haul jet 787 “Dreamliner” have caused the US aircraft manufacturer Boeing 2021 to lose another billion.
At 4.3 billion US dollars (3.8 billion euros), the minus was almost two-thirds lower than a year earlier, as the Airbus rival announced in Chicago on Wednesday. Although sales increased by seven percent to $ 62.3 billion after the first year of Corona, the company performed significantly worse than analysts expected on average.
The delivery stop for the “Dreamliner” was particularly expensive: Boeing recorded a charge of 3.5 billion dollars in this context. The extraordinary costs of the model are likely to be around twice as high as previously estimated at around 2 billion dollars. The “Dreamliner” production is to remain at an extremely low level for the time being and only gradually increase to five machines per month after deliveries have started again.
Boeing shares are still up 1.69 percent to $207.57 in pre-market US trading.
