Volkswagen significantly increases US sales in 2021 despite chip crisis – VW shares in green
Despite the persistent shortage of chips and a setback in the final quarter, Volkswagen sold significantly more cars on the US market last year.
Thanks to popular SUV models such as Atlas and Tiguan, VW brought a total of 375,030 cars to customers there, according to a statement on Friday 2021 – a good 15 percent more than in the previous year.
However, business was much worse at the end of the year – in the last quarter, sales fell by almost eleven percent to 84,336 vehicles compared to the same period in the previous year. Persistent bottlenecks in the supply of chips and other problems in the supply chain have slowed the US auto market considerably in recent months.
The Volkswagen share is currently up 0.66 percent to EUR 188.98 via XETRA.
