BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – In Germany, 149,000 vaccine doses were injected against Corona on Sunday. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced this on Monday in Berlin. This means that at least 59.8 million people (71.9 percent of the population) now have full basic protection with the mostly necessary second injection. An additional booster vaccination (“booster”) received meanwhile at least 35.6 million (42.9 percent). This third dose is considered important for effective protection against the more contagious virus variant Omikron.

21.1 million (25.4 percent) are not vaccinated – including around four million children under the age of four for whom no vaccine has yet been approved. According to the RKI, around 62 million (74.5 percent) have received at least one injection so far. The federal government is aiming for a mark of 80 percent by the end of January./cs/DP/eas
