MARKETS EUROPE / Fester – M&A Fantasy at Alerion

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones) – European stock markets held on to gains on Tuesday afternoon. The upward trend of the last few days for thin sales continues. The London Stock Exchange is also closed on the reporting day. In the retail sector, meanwhile, one wonders how sustainable this development will be once the sellers return to the market. This is likely to be the case with the start of the coming year. The DAX gained 0.6 percent to 15,934 points, the Euro-Stoxx-50 rose 0.5 percent to 4,308.

Auto production is increasing in Japan

The news calendar is as good as empty, hardly any impulses are coming from this side. The data on industrial production in Japan are rated as slightly positive. It rose in November compared to the previous month by 7.2 percent and thus more strongly than expected. The 43 percent increase in car production is seen as encouraging, as this could indicate that the chip shortage in the automotive industry is slowly becoming a thing of the past. A look at the sectors in Europe shows that automotive stocks have increased by an average of 0.2 percent.

Clariant (+ 0.9%) buys the US attapulgite business of BASF (+ 0.8%) for 60 million US dollars. In 2020, the attapulgite business had sales of approximately $ 36 million. The transaction should improve the EBITDA margin profile and help Clariant on its way to its recently announced targets for 2025, the company said.

Alerion is up 3.5 percent on the Milan stock exchange. According to media reports, the owner family should consider a partial sale of up to 43 percent of their stake in the renewable energy company. Rothschild is said to have already contacted potential buyers.

Market participants consider the fact that the real estate group Aroundtown (+ 1%) has extended its current share buyback program by six months to June 30, 2022 as providing slight support. Aroundtown announced in March that it would be spending up to EUR 500 million on the repurchase of a maximum of 100 million shares by December 31, 2021. It is not known how many shares have been acquired so far.

For Bijou Brigitte, after receiving a bridging aid of around 20.4 million euros, it goes up by 6.5 percent. Like the entire industry, the company has been suffering from the restrictions due to Omikron since the outbreak of the corona crisis and currently. The German Retail Association (HDE) recently spoke of “existential fear” in retail. The current profits are no more than a consolation for shareholders. The paper has not recovered from the price slump last year.

S&T hires Deloitte to do the testing

S&T are volatile. After gaining at the start of trading, the stock is now 3.3 percent behind. The company has responded to the allegations of the short-seller Viceroy Research. The auditing company Deloitte was commissioned to carry out an external forensic examination of the material allegations raised by Viceroy. After the recent interim rally in the paper, investors now appear to be reaping profits.
