FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – After the price gains before Christmas, the recovery of the German stock market initially took a break on Monday. The leading index Dax showed up in early trading with 15,753 points almost unmoved. This indicates a breathing space for the quiet time between the years.

In the past two weeks, the Dax had repeatedly failed at the 15,800 point mark. “With the expected low trading volume between the years, the index should only be able to overcome this resistance and move towards a record high with strong support from Wall Street,” predicted analyst Jochen Stanzl from the trading company CMC Markets.

The still high number of infections is a burden. Even if the infection rate seems to have flattened out somewhat, an omicron wave could paralyze social and economic life in the new year. “With this prospect, only a few investors are likely to be ready to build up larger positions now,” Stanzl suspects.
