MOSCOW (dpa-AFX) – In the fight against the corona pandemic, Russian doctors are to receive a bonus again next year. The head of state Vladimir Putin instructed on Monday, as the Kremlin announced. Initially, no information was given about the amount of the payment to medical staff. During the upcoming New Year holidays, the bonus for doctors and nurses on duty will be twice as high.

Most recently, the amount of the allowances for doctors in clinics was the equivalent of around 45 euros per shift and for nursing staff at 30 euros. According to the Echo Moskwy radio station, there were more and more complaints in the spring that the premiums had not been paid.

The pandemic situation in Russia remains tense. Compared to autumn, however, the number of new infections has decreased. On Monday, the authorities across the country reported 23 210 new cases and 937 corona deaths within one day. However, a high number of unreported cases is expected.

According to official statistics, only just under half of the approximately 146 million inhabitants of Russia have so far been vaccinated twice. “The vaccination rate is not high enough,” Putin admitted last week. However, he rejects a general compulsory vaccination./cht/DP/mis
