Return to the office is postponed

As Bloomberg reported on December 15, 2021, the US company Apple has decided to postpone the return of employees to work in the offices until an unknown time. The original plan was to restart work in the offices on February 1, 2022. In an internal memo, Apple boss Tim Cook is said to have informed employees of this decision. An Apple spokesman confirmed this information to Bloomberg. “We are postponing the start of our hybrid work pilot project to a date that has yet to be determined. […] Our offices remain open and many of our colleagues come regularly, including our teams in Greater China and elsewhere, “Cook said in the memo. The reason for the delay is the increasing number of corona cases associated with the new virus variant, Omikron. Cook also encourages the employees of the Company to get vaccinated, as this is the best way to protect yourself and those around you.

Employees receive $ 1,000 to work from home

The memo also states that the technology giant will pay all of its employees a bonus of US $ 1,000, which can be used for working in the home office. This supports the company’s commitment to a more flexible environment for employees. However, the bonus applies not only to employees who work in the office, but also to those who work for Apple in retail. “These funds are intended to help you set up your home office and can be used at your own discretion. You will receive more information on this shortly,” said Cook in the internal memo. If the return to the office happens, the employees should be personally present on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Depending on the team, you are free to work in the home office on Wednesdays and Fridays. In addition, employees should be informed of this at least four weeks before they return to the offices.

Return to offices has already been postponed several times

As CNBC reports, the company let its employees work from home for the first time in March 2020 due to the corona crisis. Since then there have been several attempts to return to the offices. But Apple had to postpone this in June, September, October and January, Bloomberg explains. However, it is currently not foreseeable when the return to the home office will actually be possible.
