Czech President Zeman advocates compulsory corona vaccination

PRAGUE (dpa-AFX) – The Czech President Milos Zeman has advocated mandatory corona vaccination in his traditional Christmas speech. He initially viewed such an obligation with skepticism, he said in his live televised address. But when new waves of the pandemic came, he changed his mind. In the end, he was inspired by the example of Austria, which made vaccination compulsory from February 2022.

“I am convinced that this is the easiest way to suppress the pandemic. We already have compulsory vaccinations against a whole range of other diseases. So there is no reason why we should not add the coronavirus to these.” It is better to take such a radical step instead of just watching how phases of relaxation alternate with new waves of infection all over Europe.

As in previous years, the head of state could not resist criticizing climate activists who had “initially made sensible ecological goals a kind of religion”. He praised the former government under the populist Prime Minister Andrej Babis, which failed in the parliamentary elections and which had “done a lot of good”. He warned the five-party government of five bourgeois parties, which he swore in just a week ago on Friday, not to weaken budget discipline in favor of business lobbies, which are demanding all sorts of tax breaks at the expense of the general public./ct/DP/he
