Only a few women are on the boards of directors of savings banks – that will not change in 2021 either.

Frankfurt The German savings banks themselves know about the problem: The percentage of women on the boards of savings banks is tiny. And nothing has changed in 2021. The analysis company Barkow Consulting has determined that the proportion of women on the Sparkasse board of directors has risen from 5.9 to just 6.1 percent.

At the end of November, Barkow had 905 board members, including deputy board positions. 55 of them are women. The list also includes the Berliner Sparkasse and the Braunschweigische Landessparkasse. Only in 16 of the 372 savings banks is a woman at the top, which corresponds to a share of 4.3 percent.

There is only one exception among the very large savings banks: the Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf, which has total assets of around 14 billion euros and is one of the 15 largest savings banks, is managed by Karin-Brigitte Göbel.
