VIENNA (dpa-AFX) – The Vienna Stock Exchange closed with profits on Wednesday. The domestic leading index ATX rose by 0.94 percent to 3860.04 points. The ATX Prime went up 0.95 percent to 1934.76 points. Other stock exchanges in Europe also posted gains of around one percent.

The trading day was largely calm. There were no price-moving company or economic news, and many market participants are likely to have closed their books for this year.

The US economic growth data reported in the afternoon were just revisions to previously published figures and had no noticeable impact on trading. The reported US GDP for the third quarter shows an annualized plus of 2.3 percent in the revised third estimate and was thus slightly above the forecasts.

However, all developments relating to the Omikron variant of the coronavirus will continue to be closely followed on the stock exchanges. A tightening of the anti-corona measures was announced for Austria on Wednesday: The curfew, which is currently set at 11 p.m., will be brought forward to 10 p.m. from December 27, restrictions will also apply for events.
