Interview: Brand boss Brandstätter on the VW investment plan: “This is a completely new type of car production”

For weeks there was a dispute in Wolfsburg about the future of CEO Herbert Diess. Brandstätter prefers to take care of the investment plan.

Wolfsburg The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand is investing around 18 billion euros in the future fields of electromobility, hybridization and digitalization over the next five years. Around three billion euros go into the digitization of products and processes in order to become more efficient, especially outside of production in the so-called “indirect areas”.

VW brand boss Ralf Brandstätter mentioned these numbers in an interview with the Handelsblatt. The largest brand within the Volkswagen Group has not let itself be swayed by the conflict over CEO Herbert Diess in the past few weeks and has pushed ahead with negotiations on the new investment plan. “We concentrated on clarifying the important issues,” emphasized Brandstätter.

CEO Diess had fought for his job for weeks. If the conflict in the Supervisory Board had not been resolved in time, the important investment package could not have been approved on time two weeks ago.
