Breuer on the vaccination goal: 28 million doses inoculated

As of: 12/22/2021 4:25 p.m.

The vaccination campaign in Germany is progressing: 28 of the 30 million vaccine doses targeted by the end of the year had been vaccinated, said Major General Breuer, head of the crisis team. He also wants to use the holidays.

30 million vaccinations by the end of the year: The new federal government had set this goal and appointed Major General Carsten Breuer to head a Corona crisis team. He was now satisfied with the course of the vaccination campaign. “We’re just short of the real goal,” said Breuer. On Wednesday, more than 28 million vaccinations had been given since mid-November.

The major-general said that vaccinations must now be continuously continued so that the target can be met by the end of the year and another 30 million vaccine doses can be administered by the end of January. To this end, it must be ensured that vaccination centers and, as far as possible, medical practices remain open over the holidays and that transparency is established with regard to the availability of vaccines. “Only the boosting, only increasing the vaccination protection is any chance to at least keep the omicron wave in check,” said Breuer.

Lauterbach: Four million cans of Novavax ordered

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach also expressed his satisfaction with the booster campaign. According to him, 27 million booster vaccinations have been given and another 25 million doses of Moderna vaccine have been procured, which will enable the next 50 million booster vaccinations.

Lauterbach urged the vaccination doctors to also use the Moderna vaccine. This is “a particularly good vaccine”. Lauterbach wants to push the booster campaign at full speed between Christmas and the turn of the year. This could dramatically slow the spread of the virus.

For the period between December 24th and January 9th, doctors and pharmacists should receive the Sunday and public holiday rate of 38 euros per vaccination for one vaccination. In addition, he ordered four million doses of the newly approved vaccine from Novavax, Lauterbach said. The material will soon arrive directly from production. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder believes that Novavax has the potential to convince some vaccine skeptics to be vaccinated.

The chairman of the board of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), Andreas Gassen, praised the positive development of the first vaccinations. Half a million people would currently be immunized for the first time each week, one fifth of whom are children.
