XETRA-SCHLUSS / DAX in plus after “Central Banks Day”
FRANKFURT (Dow Jones) – The German stock market has said goodbye to a day full of central bank decisions around the globe. All equity sectors closed in positive territory, only bonds fell slightly. The DAX gained 1.0 percent to 15,636 points.
The US Federal Reserve gave a positive starting shot the previous evening with its commitment to fighting inflation. The Fed is planning three rate hikes next year. In Great Britain, the Bank of England even surprised with a small rate hike to 0.25 percent.
Only in the euro zone did the ECB leave everything the same: interest rates remain low. The ECB insists that inflation will fall back below 2 percent. Only the PEPP bond purchase program created due to the corona pandemic will be ended in March as expected, but an older purchase program will be increased. Market strategist Jochen Stanzl from CMC Markets criticized the fact that this created a “monetary policy patchwork quilt” that is unsettling investors.
Airbus share rises with Qantas decision
The top winners in Europe were the commodity-related industries such as mining stocks and oil & gas. But financial stocks and economic sectors were also wanted. In the DAX, Munich Re rose by 2.6 percent and Deutsche Bank by 2.1 percent.
Airbus rose 2.8 percent. The Australian Qantas had caused a bang. It has ordered dozens of jets from Airbus to renew its domestic fleet, which will replace the planes of competitor Boeing. In addition, an order from Air France-KLM was won.
The announcement of a share buyback program was well received by Adidas (+ 0.2%). The sporting goods manufacturer plans to distribute shares worth up to 4 billion euros by 2025 after the Reebok sale.
Shop Apotheke (+ 1%) has launched a marketplace offering with new products on its Internet platform in Germany. The online pharmacy plans to expand its range to other countries.
Metro slumped 9.4 percent after announcing it would suspend dividends. The reason is that the bottom line was a loss that, unlike last year, could not be compensated for by transaction proceeds.
