BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The traffic light parties have defended their plans to introduce the first compulsory corona vaccination in Germany in the Bundestag. The so-called facility-related vaccination obligation for employees in clinics or nursing homes, which should take effect from March, is about a weighing of interests, said the SPD health politician Sabine Dittmar on Tuesday in parliament. People in need in care homes, for example, cannot choose who will treat them. A high vaccination rate in these facilities is essential. The other parties in the Bundestag criticized the traffic light’s corona policy. Meanwhile, the contagion numbers are falling. However, they are still at a high level and are also fraught with uncertainties.

On Tuesday, the Bundestag debated the plans of the SPD, Greens and FDP in a first reading. In addition to the introduction of compulsory vaccinations for certain employees, these also provide for an extension of the vaccination authorization to dentists or pharmacists. In addition, as required, the countries are given more opportunities to take more stringent corona measures in hotspots, such as restaurant closings. The corresponding renewed changes to the Infection Protection Act are to be decided by the Bundestag and Bundesrat on Friday.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) stated the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Tuesday as 432.2 (previous day 441.9, previous week 452.2). 36 059 new infections were reported within one day. A week ago it was 45,753. But there are uncertainties with the numbers. At the beginning of the month, the Federal Association of Doctors in the Public Health Service said that at least in some regions health authorities could no longer keep up with reporting cases. According to the new information, 399 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 388 deaths.

In the future, pharmacists, veterinarians and dentists should also be allowed to vaccinate for a limited period of time for people aged twelve and over. It will take a few more weeks, however, before that happens. Initially, training courses are planned, for which sample concepts are to be developed by the end of the year. Training should be provided for information and vaccination counseling and also for what to do in emergencies if an acute allergic reaction occurs immediately after vaccination.

Some federal states had criticized the traffic light parties for their corona policy in recent weeks and criticized the fact that instruments to combat pandemics were being taken out of their hands. With the renewed amendment to the Infection Protection Act, readjustments are now being made: the states should, if their state parliaments so decide, be able to close restaurants or cultural institutions again in the future. Schools, shops or fitness studios may still not be closed on a large scale. Exit restrictions should be excluded, as well as bans on travel, hotel accommodation or church services.

Shortly before the “epidemic situation of national scope” expired on November 25, individual countries had adopted more comprehensive, tougher measures on this old legal basis. These may remain in force until December 15th. According to the new draft law, this deadline is to be extended to February 15 /jr/DP/nas
