STUTTGART (dpa-AFX) – Baden-Württemberg is urging the federal government to give the states more opportunities in the fight against the corona pandemic in the Infection Protection Act. The Green Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann said on Tuesday in the state parliament in Stuttgart that after the end of the epidemic situation, the states would need the “full set of instruments – so that we can react if the situation does not improve permanently”. He also wrote that to the prospective Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), who asked the states about their wishes for the federal-state meeting this Thursday.

This is the only way to be able to issue exit restrictions as well as to close restaurants, businesses, trade and commerce, explained Kretschmann. A revision of the federal law is also needed to close schools and daycare centers, which are only possible in an emergency. The head of government also named the restriction of travel and accommodation as well as a sports ban as conceivable measures. “I sincerely hope, and I am also cautiously optimistic, that we in Baden-Württemberg do not have to exhaust our entire toolbox in order to break this fourth wave.” / Hot / DP / nas
