BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The pharmacies are urging quick clarifications for the participation in corona vaccinations planned by the federal and state governments. The pharmacies are ready for this, said the Federal Association of German Pharmacists’ Associations on Thursday. “Not all, but many pharmacies will quickly be able to help people with vaccinations,” said President Gabriele Regina Overwiening. Now it is important to develop a legal and technical framework.
However, they do not expect any significant effects from the targeted short-term solution that doctors can delegate vaccinations to pharmacies. “It could be more effective if both health professions vaccinate as much as possible in this emergency and not one of them leaves this task to the other.”
The federal and state governments had decided that the group of those who are allowed to vaccinate should be significantly expanded beyond doctors. In the short term, this is done by doctors delegating vaccinations to pharmacies and nursing staff, for example in old people’s homes. In addition, a change in the law is to follow to include pharmacies, dentists and others in this “group of authorized persons”.
The employers’ association nursing welcomed the plans to give nurses a “license to vaccinate”. People in need of care need booster vaccinations as soon as possible. “The more people we vaccinate, the faster we can get the pandemic under control.”
The German Dental Association made it clear that corona vaccinations in dental practices are not yet possible with immediate effect. Even after the federal-state resolutions, it does not mean that it will start tomorrow. “We therefore ask all patients to refrain from calling the dental practice,” said President Christoph Benz. “As soon as it starts in the practices, we give a start signal.” / Sam / DP / ngu
