New corona measures in Portugal: Entry only with a negative test
LISBON (dpa-AFX) – The government of Portugal has taken new measures to curb the increasing number of corona infections. In the future, all visitors arriving by air will have to present a negative test as part of the emergency status that will come into force on December 1st. This also applies if they have been vaccinated or have recovered, as Prime Minister António Costa announced on Thursday evening in Lisbon. Vaccinated and convalescent people, like unvaccinated people, will also have to present a negative PCR or antigen test when visiting bars and discos, hospitals and retirement homes as well as major events without fixed numbered places.
In addition to other measures, a general mask requirement will be introduced again in all closed public spaces. The 3G rule applies to visits to restaurants, fitness centers, tourist facilities and events with numbered places.
Working from home is “strongly recommended” by the government in Lisbon. In addition, after the end of the year there will be a “week of restraint” with an obligatory home office and closed schools, universities, bars and discos.
At 87 percent, Portugal has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. However, the seven-day incidence has been climbing for many weeks. It was last over 160. For comparison: In Germany this value reached a high of just under 420./er/DP/he
