DÜSSELDORF / ESSEN (dpa-AFX) – Due to a signal box malfunction in Duisburg, rail traffic in the Ruhr area and in the Rhineland is significantly affected on Wednesday morning. In long-distance traffic, stops in Obershausen, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen and Bochum can be omitted, as a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn announced. Individual trains should alternatively stop in Gelsenkirchen or Neuss. “At the moment we cannot make a forecast as to when the disturbance will be lifted,” said the spokeswoman.
There are also failures and delays in local transport, said a spokeswoman for the railway. For example, regional trains 33, 2 and 42 are canceled. The S1 between Essen and Düsseldorf will also be rerouted. A replacement service with around 40 taxis was also set up between Essen and Düsseldorf./lkn/DP/eas
