Traffic light parties want at least 15 million electric cars by 2030

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The future traffic light government wants to significantly advance e-mobility in Germany and is aiming for at least 15 million e-cars on German roads by 2030. “Our goal is at least 15 million fully electric cars by 2030,” says the coalition agreement between the SPD, Greens and FDP that was presented on Wednesday. According to this, Germany is to become the “lead market for electromobility”.

Also, depending on the requirements at EU level, only CO2-neutral vehicles are to be registered in Germany at the beginning of the 2030s. “According to the proposals of the European Commission, only CO2-neutral vehicles will be allowed in the transport sector in Europe in 2035 – this will have an earlier effect in Germany,” says the coalition agreement.

In addition, according to the agreement, the three parties advocate that in future “it is verifiably only possible to re-register vehicles that can only be refueled with e-fuels”. In order to accelerate the transformation towards clean mobility, the traffic light partners want to reduce bureaucracy and expand the charging infrastructure. The goal is to reach one million public and “non-discriminatory accessible charging points” for electric vehicles by 2030.

So far, there have been no political targets for the number of e-cars on German roads. In a recently presented concept, the Federal Environment Agency names around 16 million electric vehicles necessary to achieve the national climate protection targets by 2030./faa/DP/stw
