Second highest daily value for new corona infections in Austria
VIENNA (dpa-AFX) – After a significant decrease on Tuesday, a particularly large number of new corona infections were recorded in Austria. Authorities reported 15,365 new cases within 24 hours on Wednesday, the second highest since the pandemic began. The number of patients in the intensive care units remained stable within a day, but has roughly doubled since the beginning of the month. The seven-day incidence per 100,000 population is around 1,100.
The infection rate is particularly strong among five- to 14-year-olds with an incidence of 2300. It is therefore repeatedly discussed whether the schools that have been open despite the lockdown should be closed. Exit restrictions have been in effect in Austria from Monday to December 13th. Many shops and leisure facilities are closed./mrd/DP/eas
