“Lindenstrasse” host Papanastasiou died at the age of 84

For eleven years Papanastasiou played a restaurant owner in “Lindenstrasse”. He was also a restaurateur in real life – and even received the Federal Cross of Merit. Now Papanastasiou has died at the age of 84.
In the ARD– As Panaiotis Sarikakis, he ran the “Akropolis” for years in “Lindenstrasse” and in real life in Berlin the “Terzo Mondo”: the actor, architect and landlord Kostas Papanastasiou is dead. The “Tagesspiegel” reports. The restaurant “Terzo Mondo”, now run by Papanastasiou’s son Marc-Alexej, published a photo with a mourning bandage on its Facebook page.
Papanastasiou played from the third episode from 1985 to 1996 in “Lindenstrasse” and thus in the most successful period of the weekly Sunday evening series that was discontinued last year ARD.
The “Zeus from Savignyplatz”
“Lindenstrasse” inventor Hans W. Geißendörfer also used the story of the serial Greek to address xenophobia and the problems of guest workers in Germany. Sarikakis says goodbye to “cold, xenophobic Germany” as he said in the series and returns to Greece and only returns to the series for individual guest appearances.
According to the “Tagesspiegel”, Papanastasiou in Charlottenburg was referred to by the Berliners as the “Zeus from Savignyplatz”. In 1972 he opened the “Terzo Mondo”, in 2018 he handed it over to his son.
Papanastasiou came to Germany as a young man and studied architecture. In the meantime, he was also a lecturer at the university, and Papanastasiou also played records as a singer. In 2012 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
