Disaster cases: warning by cellular network in sight
Status: 11/24/2021 10:50 a.m.
After the flood disaster in the summer, the demand for a reliable and large-scale warning possibility via cell phone was loud. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has now laid the basis for this with a corresponding ordinance.
In the event of a disaster, the population should also be warned via mobile communications in the future. The basis for the corresponding cell broadcast system is now in place. The Federal Ministry of Economics published a mobile radio warning ordinance.
This means that public warnings of disasters and emergencies could soon be sent quickly and precisely to many people via the mobile phone networks. First the newspapers of the Funke media group reported about it.
After the flood disaster in July, especially in western Germany, the federal and state governments decided to introduce cell broadcast. The ordinance specifies the corresponding legal obligations of the mobile network operators and service providers and defines them, the ministry said. They regulate the basic technical requirements as well as the organizational framework for sending out the warnings.
Federal Council still has to agree
The approval of the Federal Council is required for the ordinance. He will deal with it on Friday. At the same time, according to the ministry, the Federal Network Agency is developing a guideline that defines detailed technical regulations.
