Association: Digitization in German economy outlasts pandemic

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Companies in Germany have become more digital during the Corona crisis – and it will probably stay that way after the pandemic. In a survey by the digital association Bitkom, 92 percent of the companies stated that digitization had gained in importance for them during the Corona period. A year earlier, the proportion was 84 percent.

Bitkom President Achim Berg emphasized on Wednesday that the pandemic led to a lasting digitalisation boost in the German economy. “The digitization measures introduced out of necessity because of Corona have proven themselves in many places and will also be promoted in future normal operations.”

According to the survey, video conferencing instead of face-to-face meetings was introduced or expanded in 92 percent of companies. 63 percent bought additional hardware. Processes have also been digitized, for example by using digital documents instead of paper (66 percent) or digital signatures instead of handwritten signatures (60 percent).

For the study, Bitkom had 602 companies with a size of 20 or more employees surveyed./so/DP/eas
