Alstom sells parts of production in Hennigsdorf to Spanish CAF
PARIS / HENNIGSDORF (dpa-AFX) – After taking over the Bombardier (Bombardier B) train division, the French rail technology group Alstom is selling parts of the production at the Hennigsdorf plant near Berlin to the Spanish rail company CAF. The production of Talent 3 trains is affected, Alstom announced on Wednesday in Paris. The EU Commission had given up some activities to initiate the merger of Alstom with the Canadian rail giant Bombardier, Alstom justified the step. The production of the Coradia Polyvalent trains and the plant in Reichshoffen in Alsace will also be transferred to CAF.
In addition to investments in France, CAF also announced increased activities on the German market. The planned takeover is subject to the conclusion of social agreements, consultations with employee representatives and official approvals. The acquisition is expected to close between April and September 2022.
Alstom had completed the billion dollar takeover of Bombardier at the end of January and wants to stand up to the Chinese world market leader CRRC. Around two years ago, an initially planned merger between Alstom and the train division of Siemens failed due to resistance from EU competition officials./evs/DP/eas
