BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – In view of the dramatic corona situation, hospital owners and doctors have called for all forces to be mobilized to intensify the vaccination campaign. “In order to pick up even more speed, I believe we have to broaden the basis on which vaccinations can be made,” said the President of the German Medical Association, Klaus Reinhardt, on Friday in Berlin at a joint press conference with the German Hospital Association, the Marburger Bund and Central associations of specialists, leading hospital doctors and hospital directors.

Doctors and hospital operators appealed to politicians to create conditions for an unbureaucratic and low-barrier vaccination campaign as well as low-threshold vaccination offers. Insofar as hospitals are supported in making appointments and documenting vaccinations, among other things, the clinics are also ready to help, it said. The resident general practitioners and specialists also want to get involved intensively in the vaccination campaign.

Above all, vaccination advertising and education would have to be massively expanded in order to reach people who are still undecided or concerned. Among other things, a broad information campaign on the necessity and mode of action of vaccinations is needed. “Laymen understandable, multilingual information about booster vaccinations in radio and TV spots, in social media postings as well as in individual letters from the health insurance companies” could close knowledge gaps and correct fake news in a targeted manner, it said in a joint statement.
