Bavaria imposes lockdowns in circles with an incidence of over 1000

Status: 11/19/2021 1:47 p.m.

Bars and clubs close, Christmas markets canceled: Bavaria has drastically tightened its corona measures. In counties with an incidence over 1000, a lockdown will be imposed, said Prime Minister Söder.

Bavaria has canceled all Christmas markets due to the dramatic Corona situation in the country. In addition, clubs, bars and all night-time restaurants will be closed again. This was announced by Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) after a meeting of his cabinet in Munich. The head of government said the justification was to proceed where there was the most contagion.

These closings apply nationwide. The state government wants to exempt retailers from the 2G rule, but limit the number of customers to one per ten square meters. In addition, a curfew from 10 p.m. is to be introduced for the catering trade.

For events in the fields of culture and sport there is an upper limit of 25 percent occupancy, which also limits the number of spectators for games of Bavarian clubs in the Bundesliga. In addition, the 2G-plus rule applies there – access also for vaccinated and convalescent people only with a test.

Lockdown if the incidence is over 1000

Bavaria is also imposing a lockdown on districts with a corona incidence of over 1000. “Everything has to be closed here,” said Söder. There will be exceptions for daycare centers, schools and retailers. One customer per 20 square meters is admitted to retail in these districts.

The lockdown measures should apply until mid-December. Eight Bavarian districts currently have an incidence of over 1,000. Söder said he expected an increase here. The resolutions of the cabinet are to be introduced to the state parliament on Tuesday and adopted there.

In corona hotspots with a seven-day incidence of more than 1000, public life is to be shut down in large areas: There, restaurants, sports and cultural facilities have to close, events are prohibited.
