BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – According to information from the German Press Agency, specialist politicians were unable to agree on structural reforms at Deutsche Bahn at the traffic light coalition negotiations. The main negotiating groups of the SPD, Greens and FDP now have to deal with this. The future structure of the federally owned railway was controversial between the negotiators in the mobility working group.

Plans, especially those of the FDP, would de facto mean breaking up the Deutsche Bahn. The Liberals want to separate infrastructure and rail operations, as stated in the election manifesto. The company is to be privatized and the network will remain the property of the federal government. The aim is to transport more people and goods by rail through more competition. However, the SPD does not want to go along with a break-up.
