BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – In view of the growing cybercrime, the justice ministers are urging a review of the current cyber criminal law. Cybercrime is increasingly threatening companies, privacy and people’s feeling of security, emphasized the justice ministers at their autumn conference in Berlin. They have the potential to massively endanger the foundations of democracy, the rule of law and the economy.

The ministers therefore called on the Federal Ministry of Justice to examine whether the criminal law still adequately reflects the current developments and whether it still has a general preventive function. In addition, it must be examined whether the law enforcement authorities have suitable and proportionate investigative tools at their disposal in order to be able to effectively prosecute these crimes, demanded the conference.
