BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The acting Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) pleads for better pay for nurses in view of the stresses caused by the corona pandemic. “This job is a tremendous effort. The nurses stand by a bed for four or five hours, sweating, without being able to relieve themselves, without a drink break. We should add something financially,” Spahn told the “Spiegel” on Thursday.
He observed how passionate nurses would be for their work. After three waves of pandemics, however, many were burned out, frustrated and giving up their jobs. “But anyone who now says that politicians should have trained more intensive care nurses in the last few months has no idea how long the training will take,” said Spahn. “What is certain, however, is that we must continue to improve the remuneration.” / Wn / DP / he
