BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – According to industry information, significantly more policies with elementary protection are being taken out by building insurers. The General Association of the German Insurance Industry announced that around 400,000 corresponding contracts were concluded between July and September. 50,000 to 100,000 applications for elementary protection are common. With such a policy, around half of the houses have so far been insured against flood and heavy rain damage. The association attributes the increased demand to the impression of the flood disaster in July. The industry is proposing to insure residential buildings only with elementary protection in the future./bf/DP/jha
