DEN HAAG (dpa-AFX) – In view of the rapidly increasing numbers of infections and patients, the Netherlands are tightening the corona measures again. The mask requirement will be reintroduced for all publicly accessible places such as shops or hairdressers, announced Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Tuesday evening in The Hague. The Corona pass will also be mandatory for more locations. Citizens should also maintain the safety distance of 1.5 meters again.
Just over a month ago, the country lifted many measures and abolished the 1.5 meter rule. As a result, the number of infections rose rapidly. The situation is now considered serious, the highest warning level applies. Rutte appealed to the citizens to abide by the rules. “Everything depends on our own behavior”.
People no longer only have to prove in restaurants, cinemas and theaters that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested. The Corona pass is then also valid for sports clubs, fitness centers and zoos. In the future, masks will have to be worn again in libraries, train stations, hospitals and universities.
In the past seven days, the number of infections had risen by 39 percent compared to the previous week to almost 54,000. The 7-day incidence is now 313. About 50 percent more Covid patients have been admitted to the hospitals in the past seven days, the Institute for Health and Environment RIVM announced that there had not been that much since mid-May. In the meantime, the situation at many hospitals has become so precarious that hundreds of operations have been canceled again.
The death toll is also increasing, according to the information. In the past week, 102 people died as a result of a corona infection. About 20 percent of Dutch people over the age of 12 are not vaccinated./ab/DP/he
