Nazi ideology and child porn: Hesse-wide raid against right-wing extremists

It’s about sedition, Nazi symbols, child pornography: the police searched the apartments of right-wing extremists in several places in Hesse and seized evidence.

There was a large-scale, Hesse-wide raid against right-wing extremism early on Wednesday morning. As the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) announced on Thursday, the police and public prosecutor’s office searched a total of eight apartments in several locations: in the Marburg-Biedenkopf, Darmstadt-Dieburg, Kassel and Odenwald districts.

Nine men and three women suspect

It was investigations by the public prosecutor’s offices in Darmstadt, Frankfurt, Kassel and Marburg in the fight against right-wing extremism – under the leadership of the LKA.

The investigators had twelve suspects in their sights: nine men and three women between the ages of 14 and 54 – all of them are German citizens. Among other things, they are accused of using symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations, as well as sedition, said the LKA. In the course of the investigation, the allegation of dissemination, acquisition and possession of child pornographic content was also added.

Chat groups with inflammatory posts

The public prosecutor’s office in Marburg stated in response to an HR request that the search was caused by WhatsApp groups with possibly National Socialist content – among other things, swastika images could have been shared there. The accused are suspected of having shared inflammatory posts.

In one case, according to the investigators, there were pictures in which victims of the Holocaust were depicted contemptuously. In total, the public prosecutor’s office in Marburg is investigating seven suspects. Four of them are also suspected of having distributed child pornography.

Frankfurt rapper threatened

The Frankfurt public prosecutor is investigating a 28-year-old whose apartment in Pfungstadt was searched in the course of the raid: he is said to have insulted and threatened a Frankfurt rapper with right-wing extremist remarks, the public prosecutor said in response to an HR request.

According to the LKA, no one was arrested. The officers confiscated data carriers as evidence: They took away the accused’s cell phones. In the next step, they would have to find out who specifically in the households was a member of the WhatsApp groups, according to the prosecution in Marburg. The number of accused could be reduced in the course of the investigation.

Search against “berserkers” in Wiesbaden

The officers carried out another raid in cooperation with the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office: In Wiesbaden, they searched the apartment of a 57-year-old. This was part of an action against alleged members of the right-wing extremist group “Berserker Clan”, which had already become known on Wednesday.

Those involved are said to have exchanged views on an armed uprising against the existing structures in Germany. The 57-year-old is also accused of being a member of the “berserkers”.

In the course of the “berserk” raid on Wednesday, officials from several special operations units searched 14 apartments and offices in Berlin, Schleswig-Holstein, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. Evidence and weapons were seized.
